There are 3 types of quilters:
These quilts are gorgeous. What makes it traditional is both the quilt block construction and the fabrics used. When it comes to blocks, think very classic star blocks and layouts that use sashing. Fabrics tend to be muted colors. Maroon and Navy and Mauve. You’ll often hear the words, Amish and Reproduction when describing these quilts.
Modern quilts are defined by their bold colors and contemporary lines. Colors and prints are typically full of whimsy in one manner or another. Either super bright and playful solids or crazy peeled bananas and tabby cats, a la Tula Pink.
This is the category I fall into. As the name suggests, its this cool hybrid version of the previous two quilt types. Most modern quilters I know, actually think of themselves in this group. These quilts are constructed with traditional methods and designs but usually use a riot of color. Like Modern quilts use.
