Stop Scrolling, Start Sewing
Welcome to Episode 17 of the Stop Scrolling, Start Sewing podcast! In this episode of the podcast I’m breaking down the top quilting methods and when to use each one.
This is when you sew your quilt stitches directly into the seam created by your patchwork piecing. It’s the easiest of all the quilt methods and is where many beginner quilters start. It’s excellent for durability on quilts that you plan to be well loved. It accentuates your patchwork piecing.
Check out this easy stitch in the ditch tutorial from The Spruce Crafts.
This method is very similar to stitch in the ditch, instead of being directly in the seams, you stitch a measured distance to one or both sides of the seam. This is one of my favorite ways to quilt.
Free motion quilting is a more advanced type of quilting method. It’s gorgeous and it can be used to create absolutely beautiful designs. It can be best utilized on a more simple piece of patchwork.
