Welcome to the Circle
I’m so glad you’re here! I’ve been quilting for years and never quite found my “quilt squad”… So I decided to start my own!
I began quilting when my husband and I first moved in together. He had just started his career in the military and I was not prepared for military spouse life. Steve worked long hours and I was often by myself. I was in a new city and didn’t have any real friends. Then I received my first sewing machine as a gift. I spent the long evenings cutting fabric and watching Gossip Girl.
Steve’s mother had a friend who taught me the basics of my sewing machine. She gave me books that broke down the fundamentals of piecing fabric and choosing batting. Other than that, I was on my own. I was way too intimidated by the women in the fabric shops to attend a class.
All the women seemed to be cut from the same cloth. They were older women who had been quilting for years. They knew terms like ‘stipple’ and ‘feed dogs’. It’s always hard being the new kid, but walking into a room full of people who are the opposite of you in every way? Nope. 23 year old Nicole was not that brave.
That feeling is where The Modern Quilters Circle was born from. I love quilting. And I want to share that with other women like me. Women who want to learn to quilt but don’t have someone in their life to show them how to thread a bobbin. Or the women who walked out of their local fabric shop after getting intimidated out of the room by the owner.
Through my podcast, Facebook group, and online trainings, I teach women how to cultivate their hobby and get a little ‘me’ time away from the craziness.
Find the latest tools to help you get that sewing machine humming in no time!
From one on one sewing lessons to girls night quilt parties, we can work together in many ways.
Got a question? Tell me about it. I love hearing from all of you!
I worked with Nicole in a one on one environment on a large quilt. I have limited sewing experience and Nicole’s expertise was invaluable for this large project. Nicole is very patient and explained the different steps and their purposes clearly. She improved my original idea to better accomplish my overall goal. I highly recommend Nicole as an instructor and would personally have another session in a heartbeat!-Noelani T.
I seriously didn’t even know the names of parts of my sewing machine before I worked with Nicole. She walked me through everything step by step. And it was amazing. She taught me the ins and outs of my machine and how to add each basic concept together. It was invaluable, because now I can figure things out and get creative without fearing the dreaded unravel!Michelle L.
